(POST HIGH HOLIDAYS) CHALLAH FRENCH TOAST

IMG_1361.JPG

The early Jewish holiday season is coming to an end. :( But, that means that there is tons of leftover challah ready to be incorpaorated into tons of post-holiday season dishes! See, there is ALWAYS an upside to the end of the holidays, and in this case it incorporates food (score)! Below you can see how we breathed new life into dried out challah.

Set your oven to 350 degrees Farenheit. Get out a smaller sized baking dish as well as a large skillet that are both well-greased. Whisk all of the ingredients (minus the butter) in a large enough bowl to soak the challah pieces in.

Once the mixture has been thoroughly whisked, place the sliced (to your desired thickness) challah into the bowl. Let them soak for 10 minutes flipping them over half way.

Take the piece(s) and use the large well-buttered skillet to fry them in. Make sure not burn them! It's best to leave the pieces a little golden brown, so that while you are frying more you can throw them in the oven for 10 minutes to cook all the way through.

Once the challah pieces have been fried and put in the oven for about 10 minutes, take them out and serve fresh!

Now here's the recipe!

Ingredients:

6 eggs

1 1/2 cup of whole milk

1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 tablespoon of the good honey in your pantry (we know you are hiding it)!

1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt

A pinch of cinnamon

1 large loaf of challah (leftovers from the high holidays)

Directions:

1.) Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Get out a small baking dish and large skillet and grease them both well.

2.) Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, honey, salt, and cinnamon together in a shallow bowl.

3.) Slice the challah to your preffered thickness. We did about 3/4 of an inch, which is pretty thick, but it's better for soaking.

4.) Let the piece(s) soak for 10 minutes flipping them halfway.

5.) Once the pieces finish soaking place them in the large skillet and fry them until they are lightly golden brown on both sides. Then take the fried pieces and put them in the oven for 10 minutes to cook all the way through.

6.) Once you get the pieces out of the oven, serve them hot and ready with either maple syrup, powdered sugar or jam.

Mmmmmm Mmmmmm! Doesn't that just seem delicious? The holiday fever has been thrown out the window. Ready for this, we've got a super cheesy pun for you. Challah-luyah this french toast is magical! Told you it was cheesy. But the point is that this breakfast favorite has totally been taken to the next level with this super awesome recipe. Enjoy this lovely use of leftover challah and have a wonderful post-holiday breakfast! Au revoir! :)
