DECADENT CHOCOLATE-NUTELLA MASON JAR CAKE

I had always wanted to try one of those internet dessert hacks that only require a few ingredients and a microwave. One day as I was perusing around a few blogs, I happened to find an awesome recipe for "The Moistest Chocolate Mug Cake," from Table for Two blog. I decided that sounded like a good place to start so I made it. The cake was moist indeed but it was lacking some sweetness. I took this recipe and I combined it with a few other recipes to create the perfect mug cake. Then I thought, well great, I made an awesome mug cake, but I feel like it's missing that special something. I sorted through my pantry only to find the holy grail of all cake fillings, nutella. I combined the cake with a dollop of nutella and then BOOM, the official perfect mug cake had been born. Check out the recipe below, this cake takes ten minutes to make tops.

Take all your ingredients and combine them in a medium bowl.

Then pour them into a small mason jar or another microwaveable container. When you microwave the cake, it may spill over the jar top. Some ways to avoid this are fill the jar with less batter, get a larger jar, or just embrace the mess and worry about cleaning later. ;)

Drop in a sizeable dollop of nutella right into the center, it will sink into the batter which is okay.

Microwave it for 60-70 seconds depending on the power of your microwave. If it is higher, then cook it for less time!

Ingredients:

1/4 cup of all-purpose flour

2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder (you can add a little extra if you want a super rich chocolate flavor)

1/4 tsp. baking powder

2 1/2 tbsp. baker's sugar (or granulated either way works fine)

1/8 tsp. salt

1/4 cup + 1/2 tbsp. milk

2 tbsp. canola oil

1 tbsp. Nutella

Directions:

1.) In a medium sized bowl, combine all of your dry ingredients with a whisk.

2.) Then add in the milk and canola oil until all the ingredients are combined with no clumps.

3.) Pour the batter into a mason jar or a microwave safe container/mug.

4.) Drop in a tbsp. (or maybe a bit more) of Nutella. ;)

5.) Place the jar in your microwave for 60-70 seconds depending on the power of your microwave. I always do it for the lesser amount of time, and then I check it with a toothpick to see if it is fully done.

6.) Carefully remove the jar from the microwave with an oven mit and let it cool for about 15 minutes. Then, once it has cooled down to a nice temperature sit back, relax, and enjoy!

People have been begging me to give them this recipe for so long that I finally decided it was time to share the wealth and let the whole world enjoy the wonders of the incredible mason jar cake! Bon appétit mes chéries!

xoxo,

Emma :)
