PRETTY LITTLE PAINTED MASON JAR

We know you're already thinking that that jar up there is just about the most adorable thing you've ever seen. But before you rush on down to the tutorial let's talk about why this jar is so dang cute. ;) Well to begin, the jar itself minus the paint is beautifully decorated with a little beehive, some butterflies, and leaves. We picked up a few of these cuties at Sur la Table. Also, the jar is the perfect size for shortly-cut flowers and who doesn't love little blooms?? The best part about this jar is that it looks amazing with paint! Ok now that we've explained ourselves let's get down to it.

All you need is:

Quattro Stagioni mason jar (size .25 L)

Glass paint (in a variety of colors; Martha Stewart Crafts has a great selection)

Acrylic paint (preferably in orange)

Small paintbrush(es)

Start by painting the beehive in yellow. You can see above what colors we specifically used, but you are free to paint the jar any colors you want.

With a thin brush paint the butterflies blue. The butterfly to the left is unpainted in this picture, but don't worry we didn't forget about the little guy. ;)

Next, paint the leaves green. There are a lot of leaves on the jar but we decided to leave some of them unpainted so that the rest of the designs didn't get lost. You could call that an artistic choice if you want, or just plain old logic. ;)

Lastly, take that acrylic paint of yours and mix it with a little bit of water so the paint looks like the glass paint. Neat trick, huh? Paint the peach/nectarine (whatever you would like it to be) with the watered down orange.

Now wasn't that so easy?? It really changes the look of the jar, since the paint gives it some extra pizzazz. You probably didn't think it would be possible to take something that was already so pretty and make it even more beautiful. Well congratulations you just proved yourself wrong. ;) Enjoy your new upgraded flower vase/container for small goodies!
