THE PERFECT (SOMEWHAT) HEALTHY PARTY DESSERT

Happy 4th of July everyone. ;) Everyone knows that no party is complete until someone brings out dessert. This year I'm having a big party with lots of friends and family, each of which are bringing lots of yummy, sugary good stuff. I thought I'd contribute to this potluck with something a little bit healthier (emphasis on the little bit). I was actually inspired by a photo my friend sent me of cute chocolate covered bananas on popsicle sticks. I thought I'd make bite-sized versions since we had so much other sweet stuff already on the menu. Keep on reading to see how they're done. :)

Gather up all those ingredients.

Slice your bananas into 1 inch pieces and lay them out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Squeeze a little lemon on them so they don't turn brown and them put them in the freezer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Get together all your toppings. I got red, white, and blue colored things just to be a little festive for the 4th. ;)

Melt the chocolate according to the directions on the bag. Using two spoons cover the banana slices completely with the melted chocolate and then quickly sprinkle on your desired topping. Place the covered slices back into the freezer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours and only take them out when you're ready to serve them.

Ingredients:

3 ripe bananas

1 bag of dark melting chocolate wafers

1/2 a lemon (to squeeze onto the slices before they go into the freezer)

Toppings:

1 bag of coconut flakes

Various colored sugar sprinkles

Directions:

1. Slice the bananas into 1 inch thick pieces and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Squeeze a bit of lemon juice onto the slices before putting them in the freezer so they don't turn brown. Leave them in their for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

2. Right before you take the bananas out melt the chocolate wafers according to the directions on the bag. Make sure your microwave isn't set too high. We don't need any burnt chocolate up in here!!

3. Take your bananas out of the freezer and line the baking sheet they were on with a new piece of parchment paper. Immediately start covering your banana slices one at a time in the melted chocolate using two spoons. Coat the slices completely and then carefully place them onto your new piece of parchment paper. The chocolate hardens very quickly so immediately sprinkle on your desired topping right after you place the slices on the sheet.

4. Put all the coated and topped banana slices back into the freezer for 2 1/2 to 3 more hours. Don't take them out until you're ready to serve them because they start to melt very quickly.

The "healthiest" part about this dessert is that it is fruit and I do use dark chocolate, but the toppings kind of throw the whole thing off. But honestly, who cares? They're absolutely delicious and they are at least a little bit healthier than your average dessert so go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back anyways! I hope you all enjoy these delicious treats and make them for all your summer parties. And remember, stay healthy everyone. ;)

xoxo,

Emma
